ON THE ORIGIN OF THE ETHNONYMS BASHKIRS AND BULGARS

Abstract
The article discusses the origin of the ethnonyms Bashkirs and Bulgars. Based on the analysis of historical information and geographical features of the settlement area, it was established that ethnonyms were originally demonyms. The name Bashkirs appeared in the Turkic-speaking environment and denoted people living in the highlands of the Urals. The Bulgars became a product of the Balto-Slavic linguistic environment and defined the people living in the Volga-Kama region.
