Abstract
The article discusses the practical significance of the dictionary-minimum of theoretical mechanics. The dictionary minimum was developed for development of professional lexical competence of students-first-year engineering. Novelty of the considered material consists that it represents the first experience of the scientific and methodical description still of the low-studied terminological system. Basic provisions are expressed that the level of language competence of students of engineers depends on the methodically correctly constructed contents of the educational dictionary minimum.
