Abstract
The polemic of M. Aldanov is interpreted in this article with the philosophy history of L. Tolstoy’s. As it follows from the analysis, the writer of Russian abroad in his prose and publicism opposed the role of personality in history to Tolstoy’s “swarm start”, the philosophy of chance to the idea of Providence. The article is addressed to philologists and people interested in M. Aldanov’s and L. Tolstoy’s creative work.
