The article examines the characteristics and problems of adaptation of civil servants in one of the branches of the Federal Tax Service. Improving the efficiency of the public service is not possible without the introduction of a system of management of public servants advanced control technologies, in particular technologies of self-management. To accelerate and improve the efficiency of adaptation system, it's necessary to develop the competencies of civil servants. This article provides recommendations for the development of competencies of civil servants in the field of self-management.
