Abstract
In the article analyzes the concepts that characterize the mental states, character accentuation and syndromes, characteristic of socially accepted ideals, that guide people to achieve success. Is shown direct and inverse relationship in the triad "personality traits – psychical states – psychic processes". The implication is that the concept of "psychic norm" and "mental pathology" have a socio-cultural and historical determination. Considered by mania in people, oriented to success, and depressive syndrome in people with a romantic focus. Considered by mania – in people-oriented success, and depressive syndrome – in people, who have a sentimental orientation.
