AbstractIn the article, an approach for assessing the degree of the determinism of digital signals by means of the norm of entropy in the range from zero (complete determinism) to unity (complete uncertainty) is presented. Examples of theoretical and numerical determination of the norm of entropy of specific signals or pseudo-random number generators are given. In general, the norm of entropy can be determined for any set of data such as stock or demographic indices. It is shown that in a digital signal processing system characterized by a transfer function in the z-plane, the norm of entropy of a digital signal decreases.
