Abstract
The essence of electronic money has been studied in the article. The various formulations of cryptocurrency was analyzed. It was showed the statutory definition of electronic money. The author has emphasized the legal status of cryptocurrency in Russia. In addition, it was considered the attitude of public authorities to virtual currency.
