Abstract
This work is devoted to the critical problem, which the Russian Federation has faced at the beginning of the 21 century and has remained the current problem, that is the necessity of the choice of the long-term strategy of the social and economic development. The energy sector and the necessity of its innovative and technological development take the key place in this strategy. The main reasons of the innovative way of this sector development and its further prospects are considered in this article.
