Abstract
This article is devoted to the problem, which is one of the most interesting in the historiography of Russia. Authors gradually examine some legislative acts, that have approved the most comprehensive and rigorous form of feudal dependence - serfdom. This study allows to trace the evolution of the legal status of peasant (farmer), base and caused his limits and consequences of this phenomenon. The results of this work can be used in historical and legal studies.
