Abstract
The article is devoted to the investigation of the concept “pride” in paremiological units of the Avarian language. The concept “pride” equivalences the Avarian concept “chukhi’. Analyzing the lexicography and paremiology of Avarian, the author sums up that “chukhi” has two meanings in Avarian: positive and negative. The negative value of pride, associated with such meanings as “arrogance”, “haughtiness”, “insolence”, “boast”, “self-esteem”, is thoroughly studied in the article. The author thinks that the double nature of pride’s meaning can be explained by negative and positive attitude of the society to this notion.
