Abstract
The article is devoted to definition of the concept «word» in relation to the purposes and problems of a technique of training in foreign languages. Genesis of treatment of the concept «word» in historical context is considered. The main components of the word are allocated and analyzed: word form, image of the word form, meaning, image of a subject, sense. Need of the word inclusion in speech communication, correlation of the word with the corresponding situations and personal characteristics of communication participants is emphasized.
