Abstract
The theoretical and practical arguments for possibility of the "carbonic" mode (pH 7.0 ÷ 8.3) and the necessity to abandon "carbonate" mode (pH 8.3 ÷ 9.5) in heating systems are presented. The causes of pitting steel at a pH above 8.3 have been clarified. Also, an analysis of the paradoxical situation in the thermal energy sector has made for the CIS countries, where the oxygen corrosion continues to be a significant problem for the majority of the heating systems.
