GEOPARKS AS THE BASIS FOR GEOLOGICAL TOURISM

Abstract
The article describes the features of geoparks as objects of cultural and geological heritage. The objective is to prove that these parks, as tourist destinations, not only to form a brand of the region, but it can also be the basis of successful business projects which will contribute to the socio-economic development of the region. The proposals for the formation of geoparks in the Republic of Karelia are discussed. The conclusion about the need to continue research for scientific support of geoparks is made.
