Abstract
Medical and demographic consequences of the anti-alcohol campaign in 1985 on the territory of the Western Siberia are reviewed. The dynamics of mortality, life expectancy and its components in reducing alcohol consumption is analyzed. Life expectancy has increased due to the reduction in the irretrievable losses both from injuries and poisoning, and diseases of the circulatory system. The effect of these changes was short-term. In the long-term perspective, improving the culture and education of the population, and changing the people’s mentality are necessary.
