Abstract
This article focuses on issues of strengthening of short beams on elastic foundation of Fuss-Winkler type by underpinning of additional pivoting bearing in the middle of the span. Free ends beams, beams with one fixed end and two fixed ends are suggested. It is shown that the underpinning of additional pivoting bearing under the ends of the free-supported beam reduces its strength. Underpinning of additional pivoting bearing under the mid-span beams with differently fixed ends leads to an ambiguous solution to increase or decrease their strength.
