Abstract
The article considers questions concerning the teacher’s role and the pupil’s position described in modern pedagogical science, including the federal educational standards, and the «new pedagogy» of the famous pedagogue V.P. Vakhterov. It also analyzes the approaches connected with changes in the functions of a modern teacher, relations in the educational system «teacher – student». The work demonstrates the uniformity of the pedagogical ideas of the beginning of two epochs - XX and XXI centuries; the closeness of the modern ideas to V.P. Vakhterov’s pedagogical views, the importance of his scientific discoveries for modern science.
