Abstract
The article is devoted to one of the most topical spheres of modern lingual education – multilingual education. The author looks into some common problems of multilingual education in higher establishments, which are connected with search of highly effective cognitive strategies of teaching foreign languages. A more detailed focus is done on the advantages of cognitive and communicative and competency-based approach, which supposes generating the unified system of teaching foreign languages backed with linguo-didactic universals, and on the major conditions of implementation of the given approach in modern universities.
