Abstract
The ongoing transition to the diversification of industrial development model is defined as one of the main targets of the strategic development of the region . The article shows that the prevalence in the industrial structure of metallurgical and chemical industries and a small fraction of mechanical engineering and innovative productions of the Vologda region can not talk about qualitative growth of industry in the region . Development of the two industries in the region carries certain risks . Socio-economic situation in the region , its population should not depend on the situation on any one or more product markets. The economic structure of the region should be more balanced , because Only such a structure can reduce the risk , and fully ensure budget expenditure commitments of financial resources. Therefore, diversification strategy is used just to the economy does not become overly dependent on one type of business enterprise or one that may threaten the stability and sustainability of the region in the case of changing market conditions. Economic independence of the region and a focus on self- creates a significant base for its development . In connection with this urgent task is to assess the capacity of a diversification of industry in the region. The solution to this problem will identify opportunities to overcome the current imbalances in its structure , to upgrade the technological basis of industrial production, to establish an effective in function and structure model of the industrial system , to ensure an adequate contribution of industry to the formation of strategic competitiveness of the region , and to identify scenarios for future industrial development in the area whole.
