Abstract
The article deals with the problem of research of the Gorodetsk culture`s fortifications, most of which consisted of a shaft and a moat. More sophisticated fortifications on Gorodetsk mounds seem to have been built at a later time when the early Iron Age forts used by the local population for the device shelters.
