Abstract
The paper examines the specific features of the map reading in orienteering and describes the original system of exercises for the formation and development of cartographic information processing skills, developed by the authors on the basis of this study. Formation of map reading skill is one of the key tasks of a coach working with young orienteer’s. An important advantage of the proposed system of exercise is the ability to use it for training athletes of various skill levels.
