Abstract
The article discusses the causes of paid services in Russian libraries. Despite the fact that they are non-profit public institutions funded by taxpayers, the introduction of paid services in the structure of the activities of the library becomes less relevant. One of the main reasons for their appearance is the lack of state funding. Libraries to attract more readers and reduce competition to invent new types of commercial services, making their work more innovative and interesting.
