AbstractThe article analyzes the activities of Kostroma scientific community and, in particular, local historian VI Smirnov associated with the study of the elements of Finno-Ugric beliefs in funeral and memorial rites Kostroma region. Relevance of the topic defined by the growing interest in the problem of inter-ethnic contacts and their socio-cultural impact. Ethnographers study early XX centuries. initiated the formation of opinion that the culture, history, ethnic composition of Kostroma region is peculiar due to stay in the territories of ancient Finno-Ugric tribe. Ethno-cultural interaction affected, including a traditional funeral and memorial rites.
