Abstract
It is believed that the first bathhouses could be the thermal springs. However, as "steam treatments" are present in almost all mammals, it is natural to assume that the "baths" were in human life from the moment of its appearance. First descriptions of baths dated to 1500 BC in India.
In ancient times, the sauna attributed to the cult practice, and sometimes the process itself and the body wash had a religious significance. Also visited bath for the treatment of diseases. It is known that the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates was one of the founders of medicine – not once prescribed as a treatment with steam room, believing that the poisons and toxins that accumulate in the body during illness and poison it, you should certainly withdraw through sweating. Hippocrates in his treatise of considerable importance to the hydrotherapy. He believed that water gives vitality and energy.
Doctors in Ancient Greece, in Ancient Rome, the majority of treatments were carried out in the baths. Roman physicians rightly believed that water and steam (both dry and wet) are able to truly do miracles. In Russia, too, knew about the healing properties of the bath. In the bath was treated for gout and colds, diseases of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, skin diseases and post-traumatic stress disorder, did massage, fixing joints.
