PITCH CONTROL OF VARIABLE SPEED WIND TURBINE FOR POWER LIMITATION AND DYNAMIC LOADS REDUCTION

Abstract
Currently in some countries around 20% of electrical energy is produced by industrial wind turbines. Development of wind energy is directed to the design of powerful and large installations. Rotors reaching 150 meters in diameter experience enormous structural loads. Therefore, a key objective is to reduce the dynamic loads on the structure during strong winds. Adaptation of pitch control system makes possible to significantly reduce the load on the structure. However, due to the nonlinearity of the process and the complexity of accurate measurement of wind velocity pitch control system must be designed with great care. The article reviews the physics and modes of wind turbine, describes control system objectives. The influence of the angle of attack of the blades on the performance and dynamic load of wind turbine considered. Pitch control system explored using simulation environment. Further direction of work on the pitch control system adaptation and development is defined.
