Abstract
Teaching foreign languages in the Russian higher school is facing serious challenges with growing requirements to the level of graduates’ competence. Learning motivation, this essential element of successful mastering a foreign language, can be described as a system involving complexes of integrativeness, instrumentality, linguistic self-confidence and milieu.
